Mark Ballard (Snowboard Coach, Climber)
Current Homebase: Calgary, Alberta

Profession: Snowboard Coach

Climbing highlights of Summer 2002:

  • Goat Buttress
  • failure on Gibraltar wall's" rainbow warrior"
  • Lower part of Squamish chief (alongside Brad)
  • Assiniboine "North ridge" car to car in a long day

Mark and Brad have been friends in climbing since 1992. Mark and Brad have shared many good adventures together, and slept in many of parking lots, shared many of outright lies and park benches. Brad is still bitter at Mark for standing him up in Squamish for a girl, in 1994.

Mark's climbing career, while not a celebrity hardman by any means, has had his share of climbing success and failure. Marks mountain and climbing adventures have taken him to many places in Europe, United States and Canada, Mark's deranged psyche continually draws him back to the Canadian Rockies limestone. Where he constantly tries to make excuses of snowboarding, to avoid ice climbing.

Marks other interests lie in snowboarding. Mark has been a coach for the Alberta team, the National snowboard training center, and now the Calgary Snowboard Club.

For Mark, being involved in this project, is less about the outcome, than pursuing and maintaining a friendship and life that is engaging and rewarding.
