Shirley Wong -- UBC Cardiovascular Physiology and Rehabilitation Masters Student
shirley wong

I am a Masters student in the School of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia. I am interested in research involving the SCI population and this stems from my research experience that I attained during my undergraduate studies at McMaster University. Completing an undergraduate project comparing the differences between arm exercise and whole body exercise provoked me to pursue a career in graduate studies and to continue working with individuals with spinal cord injury.

I moved to British Columbia from Ontario and am living in Kitsilano in Vancouver. I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy exploring Vancouver. I love living by the beach and that Vancouver is such a pedestrian friendly city. I have toured Vancouver on foot several times, walking from Kitsilano Beach to Stanley Park. The restaurants here are incredible and there are so many to try. I have a love for food that Vancouver is enhancing. I've done the Grouse Grind several times, enjoy running along the sea wall, and would play beach volleyball everyday if the weather permitted. Vancouver is a wonderful city, and I am enjoying my experience here (well, the rain proves to be a bit of a challenge for me, I'd still rather have snow). scwong.ubc@gmail.com

Awards Recipients -- Hybrid exercise training

Shirley Wong explains what is the difference between paras and quads. Why can't quads exercise the same level?

For quadriplegics the sympathetic nervous system limits the heart rate and BP when working out -- always dizzy with exercise as a result. VO2 Max test at UBC
