Climbing has been a way for me to access strength to overcome tremendous adversity, joy to balance out great pain and sadness, and additionally has kept me in a very close relationship with nature. During those sublime moments high on granite or sandstone walls, in some of the many magnificent settings I have been privileged to witness, the negative aspects of this life that I have known have all the more helped me to appreciate the incredibly positive side of this world. By continuing to seek out the best of that which exists in the natural world I hope to be able to learn the lessons necessary to access some of the best of who I can become. Sharing all of this with others means a great deal to me, and I hope that some of the readers of this site are able to take something positive from having learned a bit about my story.

I've also done many other multi pitch routes, and have put over 400,000 miles on various sport bikes (with that number continuing to grow, I ride a 600cc Ninja with a hand control for the back brake). Before serious injuries in 91 I bouldered, free climbed, rode bicycles thousands of miles, surfed in California and Hawaii, played basketball in leagues and pick up games, swam and played water polo competitively in College and afterward against able athletes and broke the national records in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle events in my only disabled competition. After years of barely being able to walk I am once again hiking many more days than not with the assistance of a pair of ski poles and look forward to sending many more big walls well into the next millennium.

Cheers! Wayne
